Teaching Capital Letters and Full Stops

The Punctuation Monsters are on hand to help your children to perfect their punctuation skills!
The monsters in this series have a ‘Mermaids and Sea Monsters’ theme and this theme is used throughout the writing challenges. The challenges include fun facts and silly sentences to help stimulate children’s interest. Each sentence has been stripped of punctuation so that students can have a go at rewriting the ‘Unpunctuated’ text with punctuation.
Challenges are provided on individual writing sheets and each sentence is accompanied by a creative task. These include things like drawing a picture based on the sentence and colouring in pictures.
Challenges are available for each of the requirements for the Year 1 curriculum. This includes:
- Unit 1: Module 1: Demarcating Sentences
- Unit 1: Module 2: The Personal Pronoun ‘I’
- Unit 1: Module 3: Capitalised Names & Titles
- Unit 1: Module 4: Capitalised Place Names.
- Unit 1: Module 5: Capitalised Days and Months
The above modules can be ordered individually and also as a complete set. The complete set also includes a step-by-step explanation of each method of punctuation along with examples and class challenges.
Children can work through the workbooks progressively and build up their understanding and confidence. This is further supported by the Sentence Check sheets that accompany each module. The Sentence Check sheet allows children to check their own writing and to peer check a class mate. The sheets are progressive to ensure that children need only focus on the methods of punctuation that they have been taught up to that point.
