Grace Orphan Care

Over 2,000 STORIES4SCHOOLS books have been donated to schools and children’s projects in Malawi.

One of those projects is Grace Orphan Care near Zomba. We met Ernest and Giles back in 2006 when they had recently acquired some land on which they planned to build an orphanage.

In the early days we organised activities with children at the Grace project beneath trees and thatched structures. We helped them make their own Christmas cards and to practice the English language skills necessary to progress through the Malawian school system.

Since then the project has built dedicated buildings and some of those children we first met have completed their schooling including secondary school (a considerable achievement for an orphan in Malawi).

Malawi is an example of a country where children are required to have English language skills to progress through school even though it is not their normal spoken language. It is this project that originally inspired the sharing of stories via STORIES4SCHOOLS.
